I agree with most of your points and honestly, I don't think my changes are enough to answer most of the issues you brought up. My primary issue is still with the homepage though, for some reason I find it somewhat distracting and unorganized. As a daily reader of the bbc.co.uk, I was unimpressed and a little disappointed with their 'update'. I find the new website unappealing and difficult to navigate because the 'blocky' new design is convoluted and does not draw the reader's attention to the top stories of the day. Thus, I appreciate your version above, which clearly bolds and separates news stories. I am also not a fan of the enlarged vertical column to the right of the news articles; I find it distracting from the text. While I am not opposed to change, I do not think the new design encourages in-depth reading, rather, I now glance at the headlines (as I do with CNN). Thought I'd share my two cents.
