Any chance we could get sharebar on category pages and homepage?

    Hi there,

I wanted to write and thank you for making such a useful, easy to use plugin. I think sharebar makes sharing content easier for my visitors.

I was wondering if you had any plans to add the option to put the sharebar on the homepage, category pages, and tag pages. These are well travelled parts of my blog and I'm sure my visitors would appreciate it.

If you don't have plans to add those options, how would I manually add the sharebar to the homepage, category pages, and tag pages?

    Thanks again.

    Hey Abbie,

Thanks for the kind words! I considered adding the Sharebar to the homepage and other portions of the site but I'm not sure how that should look and function yet.

Perhaps just one Sharebar that floats to the left on all of those pages, linking to the homepage rather than the post page? Is that kind of like what you're after? I can't just use the current Sharebar code for it because it would create multiple Sharebars (or try to) and have them next to each post displayed on the homepage.

If enough people want this, I'd be more than happy to implement it in the next release.

    Thanks,
    Monji

    Monji,

Ideally the sharebar would be on every page and refer social media to the page it's on, whether it's the home page, a post page, a category page, or a tag page. Judging from your reply it seems like the problem is the sharebar is associated with individual posts, so a bar would show up for each post listed on one of those kinds of pages.

I don't think I'd want a bar that only referred to the home page. I'll gladly take the tool the way it is.

Well, the Sharebar would still link to whatever page you were on - I'm just saying that on the homepage, it would have to link to the homepage itself and not to any individual post.

I may make this an option later on down the road but for now, this is not on the top of my list of new features to add.

    Monji,

Thanks for listening and for explaining the situation. As I said in my first post, I still think this is the most useful wordpress social media sharing plugin around. I'm happy to wait for the sharebar to appear on the homepage, category pages, and tag pages.

I second this notion - I have the sharebar appearing multiple times on my home page, since there are multiple posts there. Unfortunately, it only shares the blog URL rather than the post URL associated with each sharebar.

Is there any way to use get_post_permalink() or some other function to enable this?

Did you add it to your home template manually?

So let me try to understand the functionality you guys are asking for. You want multiple Sharebars on the main homepage (or archives) that point to the posts? Do you want them static and sitting next to the post? If they all scroll they will cause collisions and conflicts.

Or do you just want 1 Sharebar on the homepage that points to the homepage itself?

For me, it is multiple horizontal sharebars on a single page - one for each post that is listed on that page. You can see it in action here: http://blog.thesocialbusiness.com - but each share link will use the main blog URL rather than the URL of the post, which is what my request is for.

    Thanks!

    Hey jgentes,

I'll be adding the homepage support (conditional tag) in this next release so your horizontal Sharebar should work. Just give me a couple of days to wrap it up!

    Awesome, you da man!! :-)

    Hey jgentes,

Are you posting the Sharebar code inside the post loop? That could explain why the URL is getting set as the main homepage instead of the individual posts.

I realized conditional tags won't really help for this, it's just a matter of correctly placing the PHP code.

I'm using Thesis Openhook and I've placed it in the After Post hook, seems like the right place ?

I think after post may be outside the post loop, however I would probably ask the guys at the Thesis support forum.

    Hi,
I'm trying to use the share bar in the home page and I inserted the php code right after the "php get header". Please take a look here
    1) It doesn't share the entire site but only the first post, if I put the code right before the footer it will share the last post.
2)When I share a post it doesn't get the picture
3)It's fixed, how can I make it like in the post page?It scroll down with the page
