Major alignment issue in IE8

I just noticed that this plugin works fine in Chrome and FF. However, I just checked it out in IE and see a major problem. The bar is right in the middle of the page. Scrolls fine, but it starts in the middle as if it didn't get the left side positioning.

I figured it was a problem with my blog, but when i visited the plugin creator's homepage (http://devgrow.com/sharebar-wordpress-plugin/), I have the same problem. This is a little different. On this page, the plugin starts in the right spot and then when I scroll down the page, when the bar hits the top of the page it jumps to the center of the page from the left.

    So, it's not just me.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    JMR

    Hey JMR,

I wasn't having that issue in IE8 but I did have another weird problem - the Digg button was causing issues in IE8 for (I assume) not being the first child element in the list.

I've corrected that in the update I just pushed - if you're having that problem, please reset the buttons and you should be good to go!

    Regards,
    Monji

This didn't fix anything. Still have the same issue. When I view the post on your blog (http://devgrow.com/sharebar-wordpress-plugin/) that has the bar, I get the same problem. The bar on yours starts on the left as it should and then when the page scrolls, it jumps to the middle of the screen. On my blog, it just starts in the middle of the screen (perfectly centered). Again, only in IE. So whatever bug I have on my blog, you have on yours also.

Any ideas? I've tried on several different computers now and get the same problem, but only with IE. Are there other sites that you know are using the plugin, so we can check in IE?

    Thanks,
    JMR

What version IE8 are you running? This is what I'm seeing on IE 8.0.7600.16385 on my 64-bit Win7 install:

It's also working fine on my local machine (XAMP) on the Twenty Ten theme.

If I can reproduce the error I can try to figure out the issue causing the Sharebar to behave strangely.

I'm using the exact same version of IE with the same OS, etc., but this is what I see:

Looking through the code with firebug light. Nearly everything in IE on your site and mine (and I'm assuming others) ends up with:
    contenteditable="inherit"

I'm pretty sure this isn't how it's supposed to be. IE8 seems to be adding this to a lot of elements on my machine, not just the sharebar. Seems like every div has it added. Any idea what's causing this?

Actually, never mind my site. Now that I'm paying attention, it's a lot of sites. This might be a better example:

This is what one part of Twitter looks like for someone I don't follow in Chrome and FF:

This is what the same area looks like in IE8 on my computer:

In the IE8 version, the "Follow" button that is seen in the Chrome image is pushed to the far, far left of the screen floating on it's own and I can only see it if I maximize on a widescreen monitor and scroll over.

Thinking it's a local issue, but can't be sure. If it is local, any ideas how to fix it? Also, how to I ensure that people looking at my site that might have the same local issue don't see all the errors on my site caused by this issue? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Do you have a link to your blog using Sharebar? I can take a look and verify that if it's a widespread problem or if it's local.

As for the IE8 thing, I would maybe try reinstalling it? I have no clue as to why that would happen but if it's not limited to a few sites it's most likely an issue with the either the default CSS IE8 uses (somehow got changed?) or the way it interprets CSS itself is somehow modified. If that doesn't work I'd probably post to the official IE/Microsoft forum and ask for support there.

    Good luck!

    Hi,

Have you discovered a solution to this IE alignment issue? I'm having the same exact problem; I got the plugin to work perfectly in Chrome and FireFox by tweaking the alignment in the CSS file, but the vertical bar is flat in the middle of the content. I'm using IE 8. The horizontal bar appears in the correct position in IE (also had to tweak the CSS for that). I've disabled the plugin for now, but this plugin is AWESOME so I hope to find a solution soon!

    Thanks in advance,
    Diana

Sorry for the double post, but also, the problem also exists for ANY blog with this plugin, including http://devgrow.com/sharebar-wordpress-plugin/. The problem is so severe that the page will not load, and an error message appears saying that the loading of the site has been aborted. It's some sort of script error, I think. Please let me know if you discover a solution to this issue!

A lot of people still use IE (who knows why, but still, they do), so it's not worth using this plugin if your blog is unreadable in one of the most popular browsers. But I've been looking for a plugin like this for a while, so I'd love to see this fixed!

Some of the errors I've had have been caused by the Digg button for some odd reason - can you try removing it and or using it as the 2nd (or later) button to see if that helps? As for the positioning, it looks fine in IE 8.0.76 on Windows 7 (the main Sharebar post). What exact version are you using and on what OS?
