Sharebar Update In Progress

Due to the immense demand for Sharebar updates, I’ve started working on a major update to the plugin that I hope to release sometime next week. If you have a specific feature request or bug fix, please comment on this post with your feedback and I will try to implement what I can.

I’ll be updating this post with a list of what I plan to add (hopefully with progress updates).

    I had to stop using the sharebar plugin because some things were not working properly, but I would love to go back to using this plugin again.

    Here are some things I would like to see fixed or added:
    - The Facebook like button was not working properly. (I think I tried to add the XFBML version of the button and the popup was not opening properly)
    - Addition of the Pinterest button (I added this myself, but it was not pulling in the featured image from my post)

    I hope this makes the plugin more functional. It seems all my sites running Flexibility 3 theme, or Authority Pro theme are not very compatible with this plugin. I’d like to use it because from the sites I’ve seen that have it working well, it looks quite nice. But I haven’t been able to get it going yet on my own websites.

    Hello, I liked this plugin, but I found a bug with code to share on Facebook, in new code appear the option (popup) to write something when user click on “like” button. I fixed this changing the tag “” to “” and make all necessary changes on css.

    It’s a good idea to do in new version, and add a G+ button.

    P.S. I can write about this in my blog http://www.secaonove.com.br ? I think it would help disseminate the plugin.

    After installing the new sharebar I went in to edit the Facebook button and after clicking update the button disappeared and I can’t figure out how to get it back. I’ve uninstalled the plugin then reinstalled it but that didn’t work either. Please check into this. Thanks

    Three problems that need a fix (all dealing with the vertical larger buttons):

    1) Facebook’s number count/background doesn’t display on IE versions 8 and below

    2) Like others have said, need a vertical Pinterest button, for some reason adding it manually only displays the small horizontal button.

    2) Twitter’s “tweet” button is scaled much bigger horizontally than Facebook and Google’s buttons

    Are you still working on the update? The version that is there right now is not a great one (sorry to say that since the earlier version was excellent) because of lot of issues with the look and feel and the back end of the plugin. 

    Please let us know if more updates are coming up or not?

    Potential bug: Interferes with the built-in WordPress print layout that is handled in most browsers (safari, firefox, …), i.e., when I use the browser “print” to print out a copy of the wordpress post, usually the formatting looks perfect, but Sharebar adds a huge gap, even though the floating bar is outside the post column. Not sure if you can fix this, or if there is a fix already. 

    I have just started using Sharebar, as it is one of the only backward compatible with older versions of WordPress (I use 2.6.3). I don’t want to upgrade, as it may mean potential major recoding for me. 
    Another suggestion for the Sharebar update: make it so the user can customize placement (esp. vertical) on the page – I could do this as you suggest through the CSS and JS files, but I think it might be difficult. I also don’t want to insert the bar calls into every post, I’d rather have it be automatic.

    A Pinterest button would be great – I see several have already requested it. However, I also have a layout request. When the page is narrow enough to hide the vertical sharebar on the side and display it above the post as a horizontal sharebar, I would like to see the display cleaner and without the “dots” in front of each button. This would also allow them to display a little closer together and fit more on one line. See attachment.

    When Fb is floating on the left of the post, it would be nice if you had a fix for the Fb button being too far right. It’s currently cut off.

    Would also be nice if all the buttons lined up correctly, when they went to the small button size. I have to do lots of custom CSS currently because I’m building the WP theme to be responsive. Thanks!

    I don’t know if this has been discussed before, but I’d like to be able to see which Facebook profiles Liked a given post or page. If there really isn’t a way to do this (or add it in the next release), does anyone have a suggestion for running giveaway campaigns? I wanted to give an entry for a giveaway for tweeting, liking/sharing on Facebook, commenting on the post, and filling out a survey. Without knowing who liked or shared the page, I’m kind of stuck.

    I’ve used this plugin for a while and I absolutely love it! Thank you for your hard work.
    With the latest WP update (I think) the plugin crashed on my site and gave me the following error:
    Missing argument 2 for wpdb::prepare(), called in public_html/wp-content/plugins/sharebar/sharebar.php on line 112 and defined in /public_html/wp-includes/wp-db.php on line990
    As a result I had to disable the plugin and am not sure how to fix it. Is this something I have to do on my own or will this be covered in the future update of your plugin?

      This is due to a change to wp-db.php which now enforces a minimum of two arguments for wpdb::prepare(). As far as I can see this function is called in three places in a couple of php files in sharebar. Whilst awaiting an update I have edited the code myself and the crashes have gone.

    We have been waiting for an update for this as we the people want this, need this, like this and love it!
    The time is to act as i’m sure there are other developers out there that can make it happen.

    Just tried Sharebar for the first time on a new WordPress 3.5 install and I can’t configure it because of an error. On the settings page, after “Available Buttons:” it’s showing the error message “Missing argument 2 for wpdb::prepare(), called in /wp-content/plugins/sharebar/sharebar-admin.php on line 321 and defined in /wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 990.” Looking forward to trying the plugin, so hope this helps.
